11 Common Android Problems And How To Fix Them

“Could not download this app”

via yoosecurity

This has been around for years now and most of us still panic when we see this prompt.  We often think that “space” or “storage” is the one responsible for this but it’s actually not.  In connection to the problem above, it might be a corrupted cache so proceed in doing the steps again.  Another thing that might be causing this is that the “Download Manager” might got stuck so you need to Force Close it.  To do this, go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Download Manager.  Hit on Force Close and it should work.

If it’s still not working, you can try fixing it from inside the Play Store itself.  Go to your Google Play Store, hit on the menu tab (the three horizontal lines) and select Settings.  Select Clear Local History and that should make it work.

To prevent this from happening, make sure that after downloading, you do not immediately disconnect from a source as the download might not have taken place fully.  Wait for it to be fully done before you disconnect.

New apps on the home screen

It’s kind of annoying when you see multiple apps/icons in your home screen.  It’s kind of Android’s deal to put your newly downloaded apps to your home screen; it also clutters the space which is for your “priority” apps or the apps you always use.  A lot of us do not know that this feature can be disabled in the Play app.  Go to your Google Play App.  Tap the menu button then settings.  You will find an option there that says “Add icon to Home Screen.”  You want to uncheck that tickbox for you not to have the problem of a cluttered home screen.

Unresponsive screen

Now this is quite different from the slow UI we are discussing earlier.  This is quite found in rare cases but it can be frustrating if you experience this.  Imagine toggling through your phone and then it suddenly freezes; you can’t press on home even if you do, you can’t manage open apps, etc.  Most problems like this are fixed with a simple power cycle (turn off phone completely and turn it back on after 1 minute or two).  After that, try to find out what caused your phone to freeze.

If you happen to physically damage the smartphone, say, you dropped it in water or on the ground, then it must be something about your hardware that you need a technician on.

Automatic contacts

Well in this problem, Android users are not alone because iOS does this as well.  Don’t you hate it when your phone automatically creates contacts that you’ve communicated with?  Or when you accidentally sync contacts from an external source to your phone?  Good news for Android users is that they can toggle this feature.  Just go to Settings > Account > Google.  Disable the Contact option and that should fix the problem.

Bad text predictions

If you live in a different country from where you got your phone, then this would be a huge problem.  Prediction text was created for us to be assisted in composing text.  But sometimes, the prediction text is very wrong that you sometimes send misinformation or incorrect thoughts.

In Android, you can easily trash and get rid of misspelled words or bad autocorrect suggestions that you’re sure you don’t want to see while you’re composing.

I know and I’m pretty sure that you’ve experienced at least one of these eleven dilemmas.  Now that you know what they are and how you can fix them, you can easily toggle between them and have them erased from your mobile experience.
