California police, school, and family were all shocked when they knew about a girl handing out cookies made from her grandmother’s ashes. They found out when a boy went home to tell his parents about the incident. As per reports, the girl “passed the cookies around” like it was some normal baked cookies. This happened in Davis California and Davis Police are currently looking into the incident.
According to one student of Da Vinci Charter Academy High School, the girl was passing around the cookies with the information that it had human ashes in them; specifically, her grandmother’s ashes.
This girl is going around telling everyone, basically at this point, that she had brought in these cookies to school with human ashes in them.”
The student who reported this said that the cookies were made by another student of Da Vinci Charter Academy. This was two (2) weeks back and he said that it was also being given to others.
Parents of the student who reported this were upset. They said that they were in a shock. Moreover, they agreed to speak about the occurrence but to have their identities remain hidden. This is for the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) to avoid repercussions.
Dating back two weeks since the incident, the mother of the boy who made the report was unhappy.
“It blew my mind. I was really repulsed and I was upset that I wasn’t even notified,” as per the boy’s mother.
Another thing that the boy’s parent was distressed about was the fact that the school allowed this to happen. Then, school leaders and administrators interviewed the boy and asked him what happened. The boy said that the girl who gave him the cookies told him to “not to tell anyone.”
The father of the child, however, said that he thinks that the school is prioritizing on protecting themselves first rather than the children and the students. According to the mother of the boy, she was able to meet with Da Vinci Charter Academy Principal Tyler Millsap. She was there to ask a copy of her son’s statement which they asked the boy to sign.
Both the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) and Principal Millsap said no to interviews. However, the DJUSD sent a statement about the situation last Monday:
“While we cannot comment on confidential student matters, I can tell you that the physical and social-emotional safety of our students is our first priority.
We take all allegations of wrongdoing seriously and we conduct thorough investigations and involve the police when appropriate. When wrongdoing is found to have occurred, disciplinary measures are applied and at the same time measures are taken to repair the harm within the community.
This case has been particularly challenging and we have responded appropriately and in the most respectful and dignified way possible.”
Lt. Dorosov of Davis police confirms that an investigation is ongoing and that this incident will be solved eventually.
